Individual Health Insurance
At College of DuPage, Health Sciences Students and Student Athletes are required to provide proof of health insurance. It is recommended that all students carry health insurance, regardless of whether or not your academic or athletic program requires it.
If you need health insurance, you have a couple of options.
ACA Compliant Health Insurance
- You must enroll between November 1 and December 15, unless you qualify for a special enrollment period. (Please refer to our F.A.Q. page for more information on qualifying life events.)
This insurance adheres to the regulations of the Affordable Care Act. With an ACA compliant plan, you get free preventive care, like vaccines, screenings, and some check-ups, even before you meet your deductible. Also, ACA insurers cannot refuse to cover you or charge you more because of a pre-existing condition.
When you apply for insurance with us, you'll find out if you qualify for savings that can make insurance less expensive, based on your income. We'll help you find the right plan that fits your needs and budget.

Short-Term Health Insurance
- Enroll at any time!
If you missed the ACA open enrollment period, you still have options. You can get immediate coverage with Short-Term Health Insurance, including many of the same benefits as an ACA compliant plan for a fraction of the cost. However, Short-Term Health Insurance does not cover pre-existing conditions.
Short-Term Health Insurance is a great option for students who missed the open enrollment period. You may enroll in Short-Term Health Insurance at any time during the year.
